Choose the Combat Challenge You Want

DifficultyWho Should Choose It
StoryChoose this when following the narrative matters most to you.
EasyChoose this for more approachable combat while you learn the game's fighting rhythm.
NormalChoose this for a balanced challenge if you feel comfortable with aiming and reacting.
HardChoose this when demanding fights are the experience you want.
SurvivalChoose this for an extreme challenge in which mistakes can be fatal.

Choose according to the combat experience you want. Do not assume that selecting a harder difficulty grants bonus rewards, changes story access or is required for an achievement. If you are pursuing a particular achievement, let its stated requirements guide that decision.

03

Set Difficulty and Aim Assist

  1. Open Options > Game Settings to reach the difficulty selection and choose the combat setting that matches your preferred challenge.
  2. Enable the separate Aim Assist toggle in Game Settings if aiming feels difficult; it can help you target weak points with a controller.
  3. Adjust camera or mouse sensitivity until you can stop your aim near the intended target without repeatedly overshooting or struggling to turn toward it.
  4. Try disabling camera acceleration if your aiming corrections feel unpredictable, then judge whether the resulting movement is easier for you to control.
  5. Practice aiming, reloading and switching weapons at the shooting range before your next investigation so that the controls feel familiar when combat begins.
04

Steady Your Aim and Target Weak Points

Crouch when you have a safe opportunity to settle your aim: crouching helps the reticle tighten faster and reduces recoil. Target weak spots to create stagger opportunities. Use Brutal Raid when a follow-up opening appears, turning accurate shooting into another chance to attack.

If you keep dragging your aim past the target, try a smaller sensitivity adjustment and spend some practice time judging the result. Change a setting deliberately instead of repeatedly adjusting everything after a missed shot. Keep the setup that lets you make calm corrections while still feeling comfortable turning toward danger.

05

Build a Safer Combat Rhythm

  1. Land gunshots between skill uses to recover MP, giving yourself a way to replenish the resource needed for your next skill or defensive action.
  2. Time Parry to the enemy's flash to defend against the incoming attack and create a counterattack opening without wasting MP on repeated attempts.
  3. Save grenades or offensive skills for crowded encounters so that you have an answer ready when several enemies put you under pressure together.
  4. Move behind a pillar during the early hospital boss's beam attack, giving yourself shelter while you wait for the attack to finish before aiming again.
  5. Heal when your HP is low instead of continuing to attack, giving yourself more room to learn enemy movements before committing to another opening.
06

Strengthen the Equipment You Use

Use retrieved Anomalous Objects to develop and upgrade weapons and gear. Early on, improving the handgun's attack power can make ordinary fights easier. After that, consider attachments that steady your aim and equipment that supports the way you prefer to fight.

Equip recovered Artifacts to improve your stats, and customize firearms with attachments that suit your combat style. Choose equipment and ammunition together when preparing for a Dive. If ammunition for your preferred weapon runs short, switch to another weapon rather than relying on a gun you cannot keep supplied.

07

Prepare Supplies Before Pushing Further

  1. Check your ammunition and healing supplies before a boss encounter so that a longer fight does not catch you with an unsuitable supply of essentials.
  2. Use the supply indicator while exploring to locate nearby items, including ammunition, healing supplies and materials that can support later equipment improvements.
  3. Rotate or rearrange inventory items when space becomes tight, giving yourself a chance to fit useful supplies before deciding what to leave behind.
  4. Transfer spare development materials to storage at an available portal to free inventory space while keeping the ammunition and healing items needed to continue.
  5. Save at an available portal before pressing onward toward a difficult encounter, giving yourself a saved point from which to continue your investigation.
